CEHD Assistant Professor Shares Insight on Decline in College Enrollment for Black Men

A recent segment of PBS News Hour highlighted a concerning trend in higher education: men now make up only 42% of undergraduate students, with an especially alarming gap for young men of color. The number of Black men enrolled in college has dropped by 50,000 since pre-pandemic levels.

Roderick L. Carey, assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development, explains that societal stereotypes and competing opportunities make college a tough sell for many young men, particularly Black and Latino boys.
