CEHD Assistant Professor Speaks about Cell Phone Pouch Initiative in Schools
Kenneth A. Shores, assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development’s School of Education, spoke with Spotlight Delaware about a new initiative to reduce cell phone distractions in Delaware schools by providing phone pouches.
Delaware’s George Read Middle School has used phone pouches since the 2022-23 academic year, and Delaware lawmakers have approved $250,000 to test an expansion of cell-hiding pouches in other state middle and high schools.
Shores supports the initiative, noting “Removing those kinds of easy distractors, I think, is great, because it keeps students engaged on the material.”
