Brian Verdine
Affiliated Assistant Professor
Dr. Brian Verdine is an affiliated assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development’s School of Education at the University of Delaware. His research and professional work occurs at the intersection of education, psychology and technology with the aim to improve all three fields.
His academic research has been published in journals like Child Development, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Cognition and Development and Trends in Neuroscience and Education, and he was the lead author of a Society for Research in Child Development monograph entitled Links Between Spatial and Mathematical Skills Across the Preschool Years.
Currently, Dr. Verdine is also vice president of academic product engagement at Yellowdig, an education company focused on higher-education community-building. In this role, he manages product design and research for Yellowdig’s gamified online platform, ensuring educational efficacy and that the product meets student and instructor needs. He also operates their client support and success operations, including managing a team of former higher-education instructors who train new users on using Yellowdig to achieve better learning outcomes.
In this position, Verdine regularly applies research skills honed with the University of Delaware to design effective software. At the same time, he also shares his professional knowledge with the higher-education community to improve teaching, especially the extent to which hybrid and online courses satisfy student needs for social presence.
